but first lets talk about the popular OEM HID’s and our previous GEN1 Headlights:
OEM HID’s:
Back in 2003, The European MK4 Golf R32 was the only model that offered factory xenon headlights as standard; (also known as OEM HID’s) . They were a “big” upgrade compared to the standard halogen headlights equipped on the base MK4 models offered at that time. These headlights were only offered in Euro-Spec models and never made it to the USA and some other parts of the world. The fact that they were only offered in Euro-Spec models, made this particular headlight special and difficult to source for others outside of Europe. Only way to source a set was ordering it directly from an European dealership, which came with a pretty high price tag. On top of acquiring a set, for US / North American MK4 owners, you had to source or make a conversion harness to make them plug and play. OEM HID’s come standard with a 12 pin connectors as opposed to the US / NA Spec connectors which are 10 pin. For many years and still up to date, these headlights have been extremely popular. They are becoming rare and cannot longer be sourced new from any dealer. Fast forward to 2019, OEM HID’s lighting output is now definitely outdated and pretty much useless compared to today’s lighting technology.
GEN1:
Due to how popular the OEM HID’s were and how terrible of an output they offered compared to today’s standards, In 2014 VX Tuning introduced the GEN1 VXT Headlights. They are pretty much a replica of the OEM HID’s with a few minor changes. Our main focus was to keep the same style/look, upgrade the lighting output using the latest lighting technology available at that time, and making it “plug and play” for the US / North American Spec models using a 10 pin connector. During that time, Xenon/HID 2.5″ projectors were the only option available and suitable for the GEN1 . The output overpowered the OEM HID’S by far, which made these headlights extremely popular and a huge success. When LED started gaining popularity and becoming known in the aftermarket automotive industry, it caught our attention. However, projectors were too bulky that needed a new mounting system which required a totally new re-designed reflector. This is when the idea for a GEN2 headlight was born.

A headlight that has been in the making since early 2017. You may be asking yourself, why did it take so long? Well, as many of you know, technology is always evolving. For over 2 years we’ve been testing and learning a lot from LED technology that we finally decided to make it officially part of the GEN2 headlights. Why do we stand behind LED technology? The difference between stock automotive lighting and LED is night and day. You get brighter lights that throw a more well-defined pattern that makes the roads safer for everyone. At VXTuning we live, eat, and sleep headlights. While the VXT GEN2 Headlights cost a bit more relative to other options in the aftermarket; as the saying goes “you pay for what you get”. We’ve always been blown away by the fact that the other brands don’t even consider how well their headlights perform on the road at night. Most often, they’re a downgrade compared to even the standard halogen setup, and that’s a shame. The good news is that our GEN2 headlights produce a well defined beam pattern with a great amount of width, intensity, and a proper distribution of light.
They look amazing! At least in our opinion.. The subtle elements incorporated in their design are more than enough to make them stand out, but they’re clean enough to be considered original equipment to those who don’t know any better. The high quality vacuum metalized reflectors keep the color scheme neutral, and the Bi-LED coated kuria-optic projectors are as modern as it gets.

GEN2 Specs:
Reflectors:
Our VXT one-piece reflectors have been totally re-designed and are made of Bulk Moulding Compound (BMC) which is vacuum metalized meeting and exceeding OEM quality. They are unlike the cheap reps you find on eBay which are made of flexible PC, not only making your headlights look horrible, but will make your beam/output jump all over the place due to how flimsy they are. Our GEN2 reflectors are definitely way stronger and look and feel just like an OEM reflector. They are designed to accept our latest VXT V2 3″ Bi-LED Projectors using our custom billet aluminum bracket as a mounting system. Every component fits directly in its place with no cutting or modification. Talk about one clean strong reflector.
Projectors:
Our GEN2 headlights are powered by the newest VXT V2 Bi-LED 3″ Projectors. We’ll just start with the hotspot. It’s on par with the Mini D2S 4.0 and a 45K Bulb / 55W ballast combo setup, The Kuria optic clear lens and curved cutoff shield produce a beam pattern that’s plenty wide, with an ECE-sloped cutoff that’s super sharp/colorful. Rather than off-the-shelf LED’s like early LED projectors in the aftermarket, the VXT Bi-LED uses a specially developed CSP chipset from CREE. Forget about separate bulbs, forget about ballasts (especially worrying where to mount them), and forget running additional harnesses such as a relay harness. Here you’ve got a die-cast aluminum body with heat-sinks and a powerful compact fan which provides more than an adequate amount of cooling for the OEM grade latest CREE LED chips that produce a nice 5500K temperature pure white light output. Its built in driver regulates power and controls it’s low and high beam function. Available in LHD (Left Hand Drive) and RHD (Right Hand Drive) beam pattern configuration
Bulbs:
The rest of the bulbs in our GEN2 headlights are all LED making it a 100% LED assembly. The High Beam bulb is powered by an H7 VXT V1 LED Bulb (5K Temp). The City Light also know as the DRL which is located on the high beam bowl underneath the bulb is powered by a VXT V1 T10 W5W LED Bulb (5K Temp). The Turn Signal bulb is powered by a 1157 dual mode Amber LED Bulb which also operates as a DRL if desired.
DRL’s
Aside from it’s common DRL which is located on the high beam bowl underneath the bulb. One completely new and unique feature exclusively with our GEN2 headlights, is the dual mode Turn Signal/DRL socket. The Dual Mode socket will allow the turn signal to operate as a DRL, giving you the option of enabling or disabling it in case you are not so thrilled about it.
Turn Signal Lenses:
Our dual turn signals lenses come in 2 different styles, Clear & Amber. Simply select the one of your choice when ordering.
Fog Lights:
Sorry Guys, European OEM HID’s were NEVER offered with fog lights from factory, and we are definitely keeping it that way. All of the OEM HID’s including the GEN2 headlights are dual turn signal ONLY.
Shrouds:
Our shrouds have been re-designed and enlarged to fit the new 3″ Bi-LED projector, offering a clean OEM style/look.
Leveling Motors: (*UPGRADE*)
Although our headlights will come already pre-adjusted and ready to plug and play, you can manually adjusted them just like any standard headlight using a Philips or Torx screw driver.
One of the nicest features of most German automobiles is the ability of adjusting headlight height from inside your vehicle. Until now this was a somewhat complex job with internal headlight wiring needed. For those looking for a more fancy adjustment setup, we offer a leveling motor kit system for an additional $150. VX Tuning makes this simple by pre-wiring the headlights internally and retrofitting an electric leveling motor inside the headlight. Plus, we will include a “power up” harness also known as a 10-10 pin harness and a leveling trigger wire harness. The only component NOT INCLUDED which needs to be outsourced is the “OEM Switch Controller” (part#1J0941333A). These components once installed, will let you control/adjust your headlights electronically via inside your MK4 through the OEM switch controller.
Wiring:
All of our headlights are 10 pin and come pre-wired ready to plug and play on all halogen equipped models. Every wiring harness is assembled and tested in house before it is installed on the headlight. We use all the correct components to allow the headlights to function 100% just like they should. No adapters or additional wiring is needed. Simply plug and play. Models equipped with factory xenon’s commonly found on European R32’s, will require a custom (12pin male to 10pin female adapter) in order to make them work. We do not provide this specific harness yet, so please be aware of this before ordering.
Housings:
Our housings share the same style and design as the Stock OEM US and Euro Spec halogen assemblies. They are made out of PPS plastic which is light-weight and much stronger than comparable alternatives.
Rear Covers:
Even though our GEN2 headlights use projectors, you would think they will stick out requiring the need of extended rear covers. Well, the answer is NO, they definitely don’t require extended rear covers. The rear covers we use on the GEN2 maintain the same style and design as the stock halogen headlights giving you that stock clean look your clean engine bay deserves.
Headlight Lenses:
All of our GEN2 Headlights come standard with GLASS lenses pre-installed. Make sure to add some Lamin-X Protective Film to keep those lenses looking good all the time.
Sealant:
Is priceless! When a high-end set of headlights is put together, the last thing you want is moisture in them the first time it rains outside. After many years sealing headlights with spools of butyl meant for windshields and sunroofs; we’ve finally got a product that puts OEM-style sealant designed specifically for use in our headlights, and indeed it works well! Our very own VXT Headlight Sealant.
Final Product:
Every headlight will be built and assembled in house, and will be inspected before it leaves the warehouse. All orders will be shipped in the order they were received.

- Demon Eyes: The Prism Demon Eyes (single color or color-changing LED) will add an ambient glow in virtually any color just behind your projector lenses. We offer 3 types which are the following:
